One More Cut

Poynter has posted a memo from Globe Managing Editor Marty baron indicating that 23 Globe newsroom staffers have accepted the most recent buyout offer.

My own former employer was a firm that repeatedly offered employee buyouts, and each offer was less generous than the previous ones, as people needed less incentive to leave. I doubt his will be the last one at the Globe. Its lost advertising and subscribers are not going to come back again.

I'm sorry that there had to be buyouts. If they were customer service representatives, they would have just been let go. Given their typical political orientation, it seems reasonable that they should not be treated in a discriminatory way.

In related news today, The Boston Globe's daily circulation fell 8.3% to 350,605. Sunday declined 6.4% to 525,959.

I guess that means some of the haughty elites there have to wear the same bow-tie twice in the same week.
